Description This is an upright oval tree with good resistance to heat. It is a selection of Black Maple, which is the western extension of the Sugar Maple into the Plains States. It is very similar to Sugar Maples, except that it is better adapted to hot dry conditions and the leaves are more yellow-green in summer and yellow-orange, instead of red, in the fall. The original tree was selected by Bill Heard from a native stand in central Iowa. |
