Aspen

Aspen groves paint bright swaths of gold across the fall landscape throughout the West. Named for their leaves which flutter in the slightest breeze, Quaking Aspen are appreciated for their foliage and fall color as well as for their beautiful silvery white bark. Summer foliage is green above and silvery green below, creating a shimmering effect and a distinctive whispering sound whenever the wind blows..

'Kaibab' is a selection of Quaking Aspen from Utah, chosen for its unusually white bark. Even in young trees, the bark is distinctively whiter than that of the species. The leaf is smaller and more delicate than Quaking Aspen. Other characteristics including hardiness, mature height and spread are quite similar to the species. Both varieties are hardy to USDA Zone 3. They grow in a narrow oval to pyramidal shape to a height of about 30 feet and spread of 15 feet.
