Greencolumn Maple

The upright, narrow oval shape of Greencolumn Maple makes a good choice for street tree plantings and other areas where a fairly narrow, well-mannered tree is needed.

This selection of the Midwest native Black Maple (Acer nigrum) attains an approximate height of 50 feet and spread of 20 feet. Its light green summer foliage becomes yellow to apricot orange in the fall. Because Black Maple is the western extension of the Sugar Maple into the Plains States, it is very similar in character except that it is better adapted to hot dry conditions. Leaves are a lighter green than sugar maple, and fall colors are in the yellow-orange range rather than red.

USDA Hardiness rating for Greencolumn Maple is Zone 4 (-30 to -20 degrees F.) Its cold tolerance combined with its ability to withstand heat and drought conditions make this attractive maple a good choice for a wide variety of landscape situations.
